Giovanni Paolo Panini
Giovanni Paolo Panini (June 17, 1691, Piacenza — October 21, 1765, Rome) was an Italian painter and architect, known for his work in the urban landscape genre — "Veduta" (from ital. — «visible»).
As an artist, Panini is best known for his paintings of the sights of Rome, in which he paid great attention to its antiquity. His most famous works are sketches of the interior of the Pantheon and Veduta with views of Rome. Most of his works, especially the landscapes of the ruins, are whimsical in accordance with the principles of Capriccio. He also painted portraits of contemporaries, including Benedict XIV.
