Frederic Leighton
Frederic Leighton (3 December 1830-25 January 1896) was an English artist, a prominent representative of Victorian academism (salon art), in some respects close to the pre-Raphaelites.
Leighton began drawing at the age of nine, recovering from scarlet fever. In 1842, he (after adding a few years) entered the Berlin Academy of fine arts. Three years later, he was accepted into the Academy of fine arts in Florence. Frederick Leighton began writing seriously in Frankfurt in 1846.
