Pierre - Julien Gilbert (1783-1860) was
a French marine painterwho worked in the 19th century.
He not only transferred to the canvas the scenes of seascapes or spectacular
sea battles, but also approached his work with great seriousness. Namely, I took lessons in engineering and technical Sciences to avoid inaccuracies in the process of painting.
In 1816 Pierre-Julien Gilbert was appointed Professor of drawing at the naval Academy in Brest. He often accompanied expeditions as an artist. From 1842 to 1850, he taught drawing at the Naval Academy.
