Pieter Paul Rubens (MFA: 28 June 1577, Siegen — 30 may 1640, Antwerp) was a major South Dutch (Flemish) painterwho embodied in his works the mobility, unrestrained vitality and sensuality of European Baroque painting.
Rubens ' work is an organic fusion of the traditions of Bruegel's realism with the achievements of the Venetian school. Although the fame of his large-scale works on mythological and religious themes thundered throughout Europe, Rubens was also a virtuoso master of portrait and landscape.
Rubens ' compositional solutions are exceptionally diverse (diagonal, ellipse, spiral), and the richness of his colors and gestures never ceases to amaze. Quite match the vitality and the overweight female form, the so-called "Rubenesque».
