John Trumbull (1756, Libaynon, Connecticut — 1843, new York) was an American artist and Chairman of the American Academy of fine arts from 1816-1825. Major works reflect American history: "Declaration of independence "(1817-1819), "Capitulation of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown" (1787), etc.
Born to Connecticut Governor Jonathan Trumbull, he studied under Benjamin West. Participated in the American war of independence. A local art gallery was created based on the paintings that he placed at the disposal of Yale University.
