Pieter Bruegel the Elder (niderl. Pieter Bruegel de Oude 1525 — 9 September 1569, Brussels), also known by the nickname "Peasant" Dutch painter and graphic artist.
His creative biography of Pieter Bruegel started as a graphic. By mid-1540-ies came to Antwerp, where he studied in the Studio of Pieter coecke van Aelst, court painter of Emperor Charles V.
Bruegel not painted commissioned portraits and Nude figures. Of the portraits attributed to Brueghel, only one undoubtedly belongs to him. This painting "Head of a peasant woman" 1564. Certainly the artist had no shortage of requests to paint portraits of his contemporaries, but, apparently, Bruegel such orders are not accepted.
